What is open studio?Open studio is a 3 hour block of time set aside for the studio to be used as needed with no scheduled classes. The studio can fit up to 6 artists at once, each with their own workspace. This is not a lesson, rather an opportunity to explore and create at your own pace and with your own process. We will always have someone there to offer assistance, guidance, and help as needed or requested.

What are some of the available tools and materials available to use?The basics: Adjustable/tilting desks, with a stool and personal light. Easels. Drawing and painting supplies: stretched canvases (a variety, no larger than 16X20"), papers, paints (water-based oils, acrylics, and watercolors), graphite, charcoal, conte, watercolor resist, fluid acrylics, gesso, paintbrushes, palettes, palette knives, blending stumps, erasers, paper towel, rags, inks, pencil crayons, blue pencils, pastels chalk and oil, newsprint, sketchbooks, tracing paper, transfer paper, markers, etc Other/Misc: aprons, hair dryers, light tables, glue, glue guns, scissors, rulers, resource materials, magazines, poska pens, primers, working fixatives, gloves, scrap paper, still life objects, printer, laptop, wifi, card stock, stencils, stamps, sponges, toothpicks, qtips, rotary paper trimmer, tape, brush cleaner, sandpaper, portfolios for storage, spray bottles, origami paper, sharpeners, plastic cups, etc. If you don't see what you need/want, just ask! Items NOT provided: stretched canvas larger than 16X20 (anything larger please bring your own), unstretched rolled canvas, painting surfaces other than canvas paper, stretched canvases up to 16X20, and watercolor paper, etc. No wood or metal panels supplied. Tools, mediums, materials NOT included: ceramics supplies, sculptural supplies, printmaking supplies, beading or jewelry supplies, sewing supplies, knitting/crochet supplies, dremmel tools, etc.

Can I work on something other than painting or drawing?Absolutely! The studio is your creative space for whatever project you are passionate about. Beading, knitting, crochet, collage, paper mache, jewelry making, origami, etc. There are some limitations due to space, noise, and smell: clay, oil paints (unless water soluble), spray paint, large canvas pours (small okay), wood burning, etc. If you are unsure or have a specific request, please ask!

Can I bring my children?Yes! You can either share a table with your child or book one for each of you. By all means. Kids under 12 must be with a guardian. Responsible kids 12 and up can come in for open studio.

Is there an age restriction for open studio?There are no age restrictions granted you are able to work independently and don't require a sitter. Those who are unable to work independently are welcome to join with a guardian. Suggested age minimum for the open studio is 12.

What if I don't see a material, medium, or tool I'd like to work with?Feel free to ask if you are not sure about what we may or may not have in stock. Depending on the request we might be able to access it for you, or find an alternative. We'd prefer to know if you're missing something in order to ensure the studio is working for you!

What services do you NOT offer?We do not offer printing services (though there is a standard printer on site for your use), printmaking, framing, wood working, metal working, glass blowing (glass etching is fine), digital art platforms.

What if I have an on going project, can I store it?Yes, we have storage available! We have small portfolios available to store ongoing personal projects until completed, a drying rack for wet projects, and stretched canvas storage as well. Once projects are completed, we ask that you enjoy them at home to make room for your next projects.

What is the food and drink policy?We ask that all food and drink is contained, and stays away from working stations at all times. Feel free to have a snack and drink from your bag for when you need it.

What is the quality of the materials you offer?We are stocked with a variety of brands both introductory level and professional level, and always aim for good quality materials within the studio generally speaking. If you have a specific request, always ask and we will look into supplying it. Some of the brands you will find here include: Liquitex, Prismacolor, Canson, Opus, Winsor & Newton, Faber-Castell, Pigma, Nitram, General's, Krylon, Art Graf, Artists Loft Necessities, Derwent, Tooli-Art, Magic-Fly, Van Gogh, among others.

What is your cancellation policy?We ask that you give as much time as possible before cancelling in order to ensure someone else gets a chance to use the studio instead. At least 12 hours would be appreciated. If a cancellation takes place less than an hour before start time, the studio time you booked will be charged to your account.

What if I want to bring my own things to work on?If you have your own project on the go, you plan to bring in all your own materials, and just want to use the studio space but not the supplies. No problem at all! Simply book in for single open studio blocks using the coupon code: MYSUPPLY for a $10 discount on your booking.

What if I don't know what to do?Not to worry! We have lots of fun and creative ideas to get you started. You can also explore the internet and/or YouTube for inspiration before you show up in order to give you some ideas of what to create.

How many sessions will it take to complete a project?This is completely dependant on the project, your process, and the amount of detail and size. There are some projects that are possible to be finished within one open studio block. However in general, it takes most artists at least a few open studio sessions to complete a single project.
